A nearly one million dollar grant will help a Lubbock ministry's expansion efforts to address chronic homelessness. Carpenter's Church secures a grant of $976,000 from the J.T. and Margaret Talkington charitable foundation. The gift will be used for the Housing First Program to build five one-bedroom, one-bathroom duplexes.

"This is a landmark gift for Carpenters Church," Jocelyn Wiebe director of development said. "It helps us to begin in the next several months to begin breaking ground and building these duplexes and moving our friends into housing in a much shorter period of time."

Those who receive housing pay 30 percent of their income in rent.
