LUBBOCK, Texas – Cecilie Nielsen paced the Texas Tech women's golf team over the first two rounds of the Betsy Rawls Invitational on Saturday as the sophomore combined to shoot 3-under-par at the UT Golf Club.
Nielsen, who opened with a 3-under 69 round and then followed with an even-par 72, enters Sunday's final 18 holes tied for seventh place after sinking nine birdies between the two rounds. She has one top-10 finish in her career as she concluded Tech's final event of the shortened 2019-20 campaign, the SMU/DAC Challenge, in a tie for seventh overall.
As a team, Tech concluded the day in last place in the now eight-team field as the Red Raiders trail both North Texas and Kansas by three strokes. Tech sits at a 23-over 599 currently after turning in a 9-over card in the morning round and then a 14-over round later in the day.
Louisa Brunt and Sofia Garcia were Tech's next-highest performers as they are currently in a tie for 30th and 33rd place individually following 7-over and 8-over days. Amy Taylor is also in 44th place at 14-over, while Pyrene Delample rounded out the day at 20-over and in 48th overall. As an individual, Anna Dong was 2-over on the day to sit in a tie for 19th overall.
Baylor and Texas were the only two schools to finish under par Saturday as the Bears lead the tournament at 8-under, four strokes ahead of the Longhorns. Iowa State is in third place at 3-over followed by TCU at 7-over and Oklahoma at 10-over.
